4 Easy Ways to Fight Anxiety While Staying at Home

Things have been a little awkward in the world lately.  We’ve found ourselves in a time that none of us have seen before and it’s been difficult, to say the least.  How have you been coping with staying indoors or even working from home and only going out for essential items?  Personally, I’ve been taking it one day at a time with many up and down emotions in-between.  I consider myself a homebody, but all of this has brought along lots of unpredictable anxiety.

How do you keep anxiety under control when you don’t know what will happen tomorrow?  It was much harder at first, but I’ve adopted some helpful habits that have stopped my anxiety from running wild.  If you’ve been battling anxiety and overthinking during this time, maybe these habits will help you too!

Only Watch the News When You Need To

I’ve actually seen a lot of others doing this and I can see why.  It’s been a huge life saver.  I cannot express enough that if you’ve been having anxiety related to the virus, constant news and/or false social media news will cause your anxiety to skyrocket and that is what we don’t want!  In the beginning, I was tuned in almost every hour and I literally couldn’t sleep at night.  Now, I check for updates first thing in the morning and before the sun goes down.  Major game changer!

Stay Active + Eat Well

As tempting as it is to just chill out and binge watch Netflix with all of the snacks, you’ll feel much better if you stay as active as you can.  Even though the gyms are closed right now, home workouts or even a simple outdoor walk are great options to release some of those endorphins and elevate your mood.  If you’re used to the gym, home workout gear such as ankle weights, jump rope, etc. will be your absolute affordable best friends!  Also, if you were already meal prepping before, stay on it!  Even if you’ve been wanting to try it and have been too busy, use this as your time to start that habit.

Maintain Your Morning Routine

Even if you’re not going anywhere, we still have to prepare for a good day.  This can make a world of difference in how your day goes.  I personally wake up in the morning, pray, shower, freshen up and prepare my breakfast.  This is all before I touch my phone to check social media or anything.  It’s a little more simple than my usual morning routine, but it still sets the right tone for the rest of the day.  If you’re feeling a little down, put on a little makeup and/or do your hair.  It really works!

Watch a New Movie or Show

Let me tell you guys…I was NEVER the type to sit and binge watch shows.  Now, I see what all the hype is about!  Finding a new show or movie to watch gives you something to look forward to and gives your mind a break.  I’m sure all of us have been binge watching during this time but if you haven’t been, it’s a great option to consider.

We’re really not in this alone, guys.  If this time has been a little hard for you, do everything that you can to keep your spirits high and don’t forget to reach out when you need to.  As always, if these tips helped you, please don’t hesitate to share so that it may help someone else.  What have you been doing to stay sane while staying at home?

Staying active and starting deconstruction of our house is how I’m doing it. But that creates a new kind of anxiety 😉
