24 Hours In San Diego: Hilton Gaslamp Quarter Hotel Review

I recently spent 24 hours in San Diego for a quick weekend trip and I do believe that where I stayed contributed a great deal to how much I enjoyed it. San Diego was beautiful and a good time but coming back to this hotel at the end of the day was the cherry on top. If you’re planning to travel to the Gaslamp Quarter area soon and need hotel recommendations, I have a great option for you! Here is my detailed review of the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter hotel.

First Impression

A huge requirement for me was staying at a walkable hotel and the Hilton easily checked that box. The hotel is located in the heart of Gaslamp Quarter walking distance from Petco Park, San Diego Convention Center and tons of bars/eateries. Immediate first impression of the hotel was how nice and clean the exterior and main area interior was.

Service was also very pleasant. We had no problems being welcomed by the front desk staff and leaving our bags with the bellhop until the check-in time. I also loved that the hotel was in such a desirable location. Also, although there was a ton happening in the area, it was still quiet around the property.

All of the Details

When check-in time arrived, we received our keys and grabbed the bags to head to our room. The main floor area of the hotel had a stunning, earthy aesthetic with the restaurant, Wild Hare Bar Garden, to the right where you could dine in as well as order for pick-up or room service delivery. There were also plenty of outdoor lounge areas on the terrace and we can’t forget the on-site gym and pool. All green flags!

We stayed in the Gaslamp Quarter Loft Suite – 1 King which is located on the terrace in the Lofts building. I’ve read that the rooms were recently updated and not to sound dramatic, I was speechless as soon as I stepped in. This suite was…I don’t think the word ‘stunning’ will even suffice. The ceilings were extremely tall which added to the luxe feel and the decor/furniture styling was immaculate to say the least.

I also loved the bathroom’s double vanity sinks and deep tub + walk-in shower. And the bed was extremely comfy like sinking into a cloud. Definitely an A+! There was a huge pool party taking place across the street at the Hard Rock hotel. It was very cool that we could look across and see everything while barely hearing the bass from the party.

Awesome part about this review, we decided to upgrade to the Vice Presidential Suite – 1 King after finding out that it was available so we can discuss two suites in one! This one was also stunning with a separate full living room area (sofa includes pull-out bed), bedroom and bathroom with the separate tub and shower. It also has a balcony overlooking the pool which was very nice. Both suites had automated curtains and awesome street views. I will add that the Vice Presidential Suite did not have the double vanity sink so if that is huge for you, keep that in mind. Also, if you love a more open, spacious feel when it comes to your rooms, I would advise the Gaslamp Quarter Loft Suite for sure.

Final Thoughts

We really wished that we could stay longer when morning arrived so that is a great sign! Breakfast downstairs at the Wild Hare was amazing, they have a full menu with lots of tasty options. Of course, I had to have the pancakes and turkey sausage! We left our bags with the bellhop once again and took a stroll to do some sightseeing until it was time to head to the airport.

For hotel reviews, I usually do a “what I loved vs what I would change” section but I don’t think we need that! I’m sincerely honest when I say that I loved almost everything about this hotel. The only two things that I would change is to maybe add doors to the walk-in showers for clumsy people like me as well as increasing the size of the pool area as we attempted to go out but it was a little small with all of the lounge chairs occupied throughout the day and evening. Other than that, I love when I can give a raving review and this definitely is one. The Hilton did an amazing job with this property and again, I cannot recommend it enough!
