It’s pretty rare that I want to buy every single item from a makeup collection. But the NARS Summer Unrated collection has taken me for a spin!
I have yet to figure out the Blush & Bronzer Duo shade I want, but when I saw the limited edition Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette, it was an immediate buy.

This palette was the summer makeup addition that I didn’t know I needed! I’m always wearing a natural eye look and love to throw in a little shimmer on occasions, especially in the summertime. So I love a palette that can serve as that one go-to. If you can relate and you’re wondering if NARS’s new palette is worth the buy, let’s get into it.
NARS Summer Unrated Eyeshadow Palette Swatches and Shades
The shade range definitely drew me in. NARS has always come with the beautiful base tones and here you have them for sure with shimmers for when you’re feeling fancy. The shades are:
- Isla – matte light tan
- Crete – soft pink gold
- Spiaggia Rosa – matte dirty peach
- Orgasm – peachy pink with golden shimmer
(I’ve heard this is the most popular NARS shade & I see why) - Laguna – satin warm brown
- Satisfy – champagne shimmer
- Palmetto – sparkling metallic gold
- Komodo Island – chocolate with gold glitter
- Palmas – matte red brown
- Bird of Paradise – sparkling rose gold
- Taj Mahal – burnt tangerine with gold shimmer
- Love on Fire – copper glitter
- Tikehau – matte mocha brown
- Summer Moon – cool pink shimmer
- Bad Intentions – raspberry shimmer
- Fetish – shimmering espresso
I was a little afraid for the pigment after seeing the swatches on my arm. But the finger swatches were even more vivid than they were in the palette so that gave me hope.
First Impression
My first impression of the NARS Summer Unrated palette…I can’t say that I was shocked to actually LOVE it. After the swatches, I was anxious to see the color on my eyelids but it had no problem showing up and applying smoothly. The color Isla is the perfect base color for my skin tone. I added Spiaggia Rosa for a little depth and Orgasm for that fun summer shimmer.
I used my PRO Crease Brush from Sephora for the application and it blended to perfection. Side note: If you’re a beginner or could just use a loyal go-to, this brush has been my sidekick for soo long.
Also on the list of first impressions, this is for my fellow fragrance-sensitive people. The shadows do have a faint smell but it’s not overcoming and went away within a few seconds of application.
Is the NARS Summer Unrated Eyeshadow Palette Worth Buying?
Since purchasing this palette, I’ve used it every single time I’ve gone out and about. It’s only been a week and I’ve had no problems reaching for it. The color stays until you’re ready for the eye makeup remover at the end of the day. The price could be a splurge, but I’m the type to buy a palette and absolutely stick to it for a season or two (or usually until I hit pan). Also again, if you’re the natural eye-look girl like me, you’ll have a field day with this one.
The Cons
I had to look past my excitement for this product so that I could really see the cons. I noted three:
- Maybe this is me being aesthetic, but the top surface of the palette is very prone to fingerprints (while opening, closing, etc.). I catch myself wiping it a lot and even then, it still ends up looking pretty used when it hits the light. Just something to keep in mind.
- The smell. I did say it’s not overpowering or strong but if you’re VERY sensitive to fragrance, the initial smell is something to factor in while making your purchase decision.
- The last con (personal opinion) is the amount of shimmers in comparison to mattes. I would have loved to see more than 5 chances at a matte finish before the shimmers entered the party.
Overall, do I love the NARS Summer Unrated palette? Absolutely, I do.
Would I recommend the palette? Absolutely, I would. Mine will definitely be coming along in my carry-on this summer. If you try it, let me know your thoughts!
Looks gorgeous, love the colors
