Y’all! The weather is officially starting to get colder here and I might be a little overexcited about it. It really feels like “the season” now! This is my favorite time to look at the current year and think about any needed changes for next year.
You know that bad habit of always feeling like you just…don’t have time to get things done? Well I’ve been feeling mighty pressed for time and after being mindful of how I actually spend it, I see a possible issue! Some of my to-do list items take a little longer than they should…actually a lot longer.
One activity that definitely needed better time management was my morning workout. I’ve gotten in the habit of working out before my full time job and I just didn’t have enough time to finish my entire workout (including my warm-up)! Or so I thought. After a few small changes, I can finish my workout in an hour or less. These changes may save you a little time (or a lot) if you’ve been pushing for time or taking too long to finish your morning workouts.
Prepare Your Workout Gear and Gym Bag
On the night before, I set out my workout gear and make sure my gym accessories are in my gym bag. There should be no time spent trying to figure out what you should wear or take with you. Accessories that I never take out of my gym bag include my cable ankle straps, resistance bands, and barbell pad. If I’m going straight to work afterwards, I of course have to pack my soap, shower booties, work outfit, etc.
Prep Your Pre-Workout and After Workout Meals
I rarely have an appetite at 5 in the morning. Before my workouts, I mix two scoops of my NLA for Her protein with almond milk and I’m good to go! After, I either have instant oatmeal with peanut butter or another protein shake until lunchtime. These are the quickest options for me but everyone is different! Just make sure that your meals are ready to go in the AM, not being prepared at the last minute.
Stick to the Plan
I always have my workout plan including my rest periods scheduled beforehand. This should be strictly followed with little distractions (talking, social media). I actually realized that during my rest periods, I was mindlessly scrolling on social media and losing countless minutes!
Wear Good Quality Workout Gear
So this may be the most underrated topic ever. How much time do you think it takes to pull your leggings up after squats or other lower body exercises? How about adjusting your workout bra when it slides? Before I purchased better workout clothes, I was losing lots of unnecessary time adjusting my clothes after almost every set. It may not seem like a lot but it all adds up, trust me!
I love to work out in Adidas gear on the regular. Their cotton leggings in particular are irresistible! They don’t move AT ALL and they also enhance my figure. Can’t argue with that all. I linked below some of my Adidas workout essentials that you have to try!
What is one thing that may be costing you time during your workout sessions?
Love this! I usually workout around 5am, and I always kick myself for not setting out my clothes the night before. I have a 5 month old son, and itβs hard trying to pick out clothes without waking him up lol. Your post reminds me to set my clothes out tonight for my workout tomorrow. Thanks!
P.S. peanut butter with oatmeal is the beeesst!! π
