Story of my life: going to Target for “just one thing” and finding myself in the makeup section. Can you relate? Don’t worry, this is a safe place.
I was having one of those days where I was just “browsing, not buying” when I spotted the new Maybelline Dream Urban Cover foundation. If you are into the beauty industry in any way, you have heard of this foundation launch. I have been hearing a lot of mixed reviews and decided to try it out myself!
If you are already apart of our growing community, hey girl hey, and welcome back! If you are new here, you may not have read my review of Kiehl’s skincare yet. I highlighted there that I have very sensitive, combination skin that tends to get a little dryer in the summertime. If you have sensitive, combination skin as well, this may be the review for you!
First things first, let’s get into some really quick facts about the foundation.
Facts
Target’s website states that the new Dream Urban Cover foundation is the first full coverage makeup that is specifically formulated to protect your skin from harmful environmental aggressors. Some of the benefits from the foundation are listed as:
- Lightweight, enriched with antioxidants to protect against pollution
- Natural-looking finish
- Protects skin day after day
The foundation comes in 16 shades and is dermatologist tested.

Review
I absolutely LOVE squeeze applicators on foundation. This allows you to put the foundation right where you want it before blending. It also reduces wasted product because you can get more product out when you’re near the end of your time together.
Before application After application with Beauty Blender
You have to excuse my face in the after image. The smell of the SPF was VERY STRONG. This is usually a hit or miss with SPF foundations. Personally not something that I am fond of. I did not run into any problems blending with the beauty blender. The foundation did cover all of my dark spots, but my pores came to life…literally.
The foundation looked a lot better and I had much less transfer after I actually set my face. I did not like that I was in the sun for a short amount of time when my face became noticeably blotchy in some areas. My face maintained the shiny look that it had when I first applied the foundation. It almost looked like I was sweating. The smell also stayed consistent.
Verdict, Pros, and Cons
So it all boils down to this.
Will I be reaching again for this foundation? Probably not. I do, however, love their FitMe Foundation formula. I highly recommend that one if you have not tried any of Maybelline’s liquid foundations. This one, however, was just a miss for me. If you do purchase, I recommend not using a hydrating primer for sure or you will be in for an adventure.
Pros
- Applicator
- Blended easily
Cons
- Strong smell of SPF (allergy trigger)
- Blotchiness
- Increased visibility of pores
- Shiny, sweaty look
